Ethiopia to offer 5% stake in Ethio Telcom to domestic investors

As part of plans to privatise the country’s current monopoly telecoms provider, Ethio Telecom, the government will reportedly offer a 5% stake to local investors. According to Reuters, state-affiliated Fana Broadcasting – quoting Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed – confirmed the development, while noting that as part of the privatisation process the state will retain a 55% stake in Ethio Telecom, with the remainder (40%) to be offered to international investors.
