TDC NET, the infrastructure arm of Danish telco TDC, has launched commercial 5G services in the 3.5GHz band in Copenhagen, Odense, Aarhus and Helsingor. The company claims that almost 3,000 base station sites have been equipped with Ericsson’s 5G technology throughout Denmark, with plans to increase the footprint to 90% by year-end.
TeleGeography notes that TDC’s 5G rollout commenced in Zealand in October 2019, with all 3,854 masts in TDC’s mobile network scheduled to be upgraded to 5G going forward. In December TDC and Swedish equipment vendor Ericsson launched a trial 5G project in Helsingor municipality, after being granted temporary access to the 3.5GHz band by the Danish Energy Agency (DEA). New 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G equipment has been installed on 40 masts across the municipality, with TDC planning to test speeds of up to 1.1Gbps over the infrastructure.
