Elisa and Ericsson establish 5G SA connection

1 Sep 2020

Elisa and Swedish vendor Ericsson claim to have established the first end-to-end 5G Standalone (SA) connection in Finland. In a press release regarding the development, the companies said the technology milestone – which saw a data connection using 5G standalone connectivity established in Kirkkonummi, located at the side of the Helsinki Metropolitan area – had been achieved using Ericsson products and solutions from its extensive 5G portfolio.

Commenting, Elisa’s chief technical officer Kalle Lehtinen said: ‘Elisa started to test 5G technology years before its launch in 2019. Now, together with Ericsson, we again walk a few steps ahead and look to the future of 5G. Although this was a pilot, it’s a big step towards even faster, more reliable and efficient 5G that will benefit our customers in the near future.’
