Vodafone UK partners with Openreach to extend gigabit speeds to three new cities

26 Aug 2020

Vodafone UK has announced that its ‘Gigafast Broadband’ service has been made available to 360,000 premises across three additional cities, namely Birmingham, Bristol and Liverpool. In revealing the expanded coverage, the operator said that this had been achieved in collaboration with Openreach, with Vodafone using the former’s full fibre infrastructure to deliver broadband connectivity at speeds of up to 900Mbps as part of a commercial deal the pair signed back in November 2019. Looking ahead, Vodafone has said that the number of premises covered in the three cities will increase to more than half a million by mid-2021, as Openreach extends its infrastructure in those locations.

Meanwhile, Vodafone UK noted that the launch of its Gigafast service in the new locations means it is now offering gigabit speeds in a total of 15 towns and cities across the country, a figure that is ‘set to become available in three million homes and businesses across the UK over the next year’.
