WEKO opens investigation into Swisscom

25 Aug 2020

Switzerland’s Competition Commission (Wettbewerbskommission, WEKO) has opened an investigation into state-owned full-service provider Swisscom, regarding potential abuses of its market position in the broadband segment. The antitrust watchdog notes that Swisscom is suspected of charging excessively high prices in tenders for projects to connect company sites. As Swisscom’s competitors are dependent on the company’s infrastructure for the these projects and, as such, are unable to submit competitive offers. WEKO adds that it sanctioned Swisscom in 2015 for similar behaviour in relation to the tender for the interconnection of post offices.
