Telia begins gradual 3G phaseout in Lithuania

20 Aug 2020

Telia Lietuva will stop using the 2100MHz band to support 3G later this month and instead refarm the spectrum to increase the speed and capacity of its 4G services in Lithuania. Verslo Zinios quotes Telia’s Network Manager Arunas Strolia as saying that the change will initially take place in all areas except Vilnius and Kaunas, with these cities set to follow by the end of the year. He added that customers will still be able to access 3G services if their handsets support the 900MHz band, although Telia is aiming to fully shut down its 3G network by the end of 2022; around 98% of all mobile data traffic is currently carried over its LTE network.
