Grupo MASMOVIL will launch 5G services in September over the Orange Espana network, Expansion reports. With Orange yet to commercialise its own 5G service, MASMOVIL is expected to wait for the French-backed firm’s launch and then follow suit a matter of days later. The report suggests the 5G launch will take place in five cities during the week commencing 7 September. The locations have been named as Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville and Malaga, with the initial network expected to comprise around 200 cell sites.
As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, in October last year MASMOVIL extended its existing national roaming agreement with Orange to receive guaranteed 5G access under ‘favourable conditions’. Going forward, Orange is expected to deploy a 5G network covering 35% of the population (including the 40 largest cities in Spain).
