Telekom Slovenije has released more details of its 5G rollout, confirming that it is working with Ericsson on Slovenia’s first commercial fifth-generation network. Telekom launched 5G services last month using its existing 2.6GHz frequencies. At launch the network used 150 base stations to provide coverage to around 25% of the population, with plans to reach one-third of Slovenians by the end of the year.
Telekom’s 5G services were switched on through a software installation to existing Ericsson Radio System and Packet Core equipment which enables spectrum sharing between 4G and 5G in the 2.6GHz band. The deal with Ericsson marks the vendor’s 100th commercial 5G equipment agreement, including 58 publicly announced contracts and 56 live 5G networks, spanning five continents.
