Fastweb and Linkem expand Italian broadband partnership

5 Aug 2020

Italian broadband providers Fastweb and Linkem have expanded their fixed-wireless access (FWA) partnership to cover an additional four million households in underserved digital divide areas. The original agreement signed by the pair in December covered eight million homes. The firms are looking to provide access at up to 1Gbps via 5G FWA technology.

Alberto Calcagno, Fastweb CEO, said: ‘5G FWA networks are the most efficient solution to guarantee ultra-broadband services up to 1 Gigabit in areas of the country that are currently [experiencing] a serious digital divide. The COVID emergency has clearly shown us how is important to have stable and powerful connections everywhere. With this agreement we give our timely contribution to eliminate the digital divide in Italy.’
