Digicel completes LTE upgrade of its entire network

4 Aug 2020

Digicel Tonga has announced that its entire mobile network has now been upgraded to LTE following completion of a TOP1.8 million (USD770,250) programme initiated in late 2019. The operator confirmed in a press release that all sites across the islands of Tongatapu, Ha’apai, Vava’u and ‘Eua have now been updated to improve coverage, speed and capacity. Digicel Tonga launched ‘4G+’ services (presumed to use LTE-A technology) across 50% of its sites in November 2017, using the 700MHz and 1800MHz frequency bands to achieve maximum download speeds of 80Mbps.
