Lithuania’s Competition Council says it has received an application from mobile operator Bite seeking approval for the acquisition of MEZON, the retail broadband and IPTV business of state-owned Lithuanian Radio and Television Centre (LRTC, also known as Telecentras). Bite plans to acquire the entire MEZON business, which consists of services provided under that brand and assets used to provide these services, such as the telecoms network, radio frequencies, customer base, sales network and the contracts with the employees. Interested parties have been invited to submit reasoned opinions on the possible effects of the deal on competition within ten working days.
As previously reported by CommsUpdate, Telecentras signed an agreement to sell its internet, data transmission and IPTV business to Bite for more than EUR20 million (USD23.5 million) in May 2020. Bite is managed by US private equity fund Providence Equity Partners.
