Jio standalone net profit hits INR25.2bn

31 Jul 2020

Indian full-service provider Reliance Jio Infocomm (Jio) has booked turnover of INR165.6 billion (USD2.2 billion) for the three months ended 30 June 2020, up 33.7% year-on-year from INR123.8 billion, bolstered by strong subscriber growth and the launch of its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) service in September last year. EBITDA for the quarter was up 55.4% on the year-ago period to INR72.8 billion, while net profit reached INR25.2 billion, compared to INR8.9 billion a year earlier. Jio claimed a total of 398.3 million customers, the majority of which were mobile subscribers: the operator reported that the process of converting trial users to paying customers was ‘largely complete’ and that it had ‘more than one million home users connected with Jio FTTH services’. ARPU for the period stood at INR140.3 – although Jio did not specify whether it included FTTH users in this figure – whilst total mobile data traffic rose 30.2% y-o-y to 14.2 billion GB, or an average of 12.1GB per user per month.
