Vodafone Germany has rolled out gigabit cable speeds for an additional 1.7 million homes in over 120 towns and cities. The new deployments have increased its 1Gbps cable footprint to more than 21 million households across the country, and the firm is aiming to supply over 25 million homes with these speeds by 2022 through the rollout of DOCSIS 3.1.

Vodafone also revealed that it plans to conduct the first field tests of DOCSIS 4.0 technology in the next two years, as soon the first hardware prototypes become available. DOCSIS 4.0 should enable download speeds of up to 10Gbps and uploads rates of 6Gbps.
