US Cellular taps Nokia for mmWave 5G rollout

US Cellular and Nokia have announced an agreement to add 5G mmWave capabilities in the 24GHz and 28GHz spectrum bands to the mobile operator’s networks. The cellco will deploy Nokia’s AirScale portfolio, with Cloud RAN capabilities, to provide enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB) 5G mmWave. Further, to support its IoT and enterprise customers, US Cellular has also opted to include the vendor’s Worldwide IoT Network Grid (WING) solution as a deployment component, which allows the scaling of 5G IoT services faster and more cost-effectively. The rollout will commence straight away, with commercial availability planned for 2021.
