Indonesian fixed and mobile operator XL Axiata says its XL HOME broadband services (introduced in December 2018) are now available in a number of major cities in East Java, thanks to a partnership deal with domestic fibre-optic infrastructure service provider PT Mega Akses Persada (FiberStar). IndoTelko cites XL Axiata as saying that in the launch phase in the province, its high speed broadband plans will be available to customers in Surabaya, Sidoarjo, Gresik and Malang, and claimed that in the opening days, ‘more than 10,000 customers from the East Java area immediately queued to get this service through the official website’. TeleGeography notes that in a bid to entice sign-ups, the ISP has an XL HOME promo offer boasting a 100Mbps connection for IDR299,000 (USD20.45) per month. The offer runs until 30 September 2020 for new customers. Going forward, XL hopes to have further expanded its broadband reach to Medan, North Sumatra, by the end of July.
To date, XL Axiata’s has built a fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network that can reach around 350,000 households and claims to have signed up more than 65,000 customers in several cities, such as Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi, Makassar, Balikpapan, Banjarmasin, Denpasar, Yogyakarta and Bandung.
