Vodafone Idea has paid a further INR10 billion (USD133.6 million) to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) towards clearing its dues related to the Supreme Court’s October 2019 ruling on Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR), the Economic Times reports. The submission brings its total paid to-date to INR78.5 billion, of around INR514 billion demanded by the DoT. A further hearing on the matter is scheduled to take place today (20 July) and will see the Supreme Court consider a proposal from the telcos seeking permission to pay the remainder of their AGR-related dues over a period of up to 20 years. In its original decision, the court had given operators just three months to pay backdated licence and spectrum fees, penalties and interest related to a disputed definition of AGR, upon which providers’ fees are calculated. The court has so far been reluctant to allow providers any leeway, however, and initially dismissed requests to stagger payments.
