Network improvements touted as TPG-VHA merger implementation date arrives

With today (13 July) marking the implementation date for the long-awaited merger of Vodafone Australia and TPG Telecom, the companies involved have already sought to highlight the benefits to consumers that the tie-up will bring. The Sydney Morning Herald, cites TPG Telecom chief Inaki Berroeta as saying that Vodafone Australia customers can expect to see increased mobile broadband speeds, more consistent coverage in busy areas and an improved overall network performance.

Specifically, the executive was said to have confirmed that from today subscribers in Canberra will benefit from a 20% increase in capacity, after Vodafone Australia deployed additional 1800MHz spectrum to 99 sites. In addition, the mobile operator is said to have switched on 46 small cells in the Melbourne Central Business District, with a view to improving network performance ‘in busy areas such as Collins Street and Docklands’.
