Claro Brasil – which announced the launch of its 5G mobile network earlier this month – shows on its website that its initial 5G coverage includes selected zones in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, with a company video displaying 13 named districts of the former and nine districts of the latter set to receive coverage in the short term. These districts will all get 5G services in July-September, according to newspaper Valor Economico, which also reported that the first districts with a live 5G signal are Paulista Avenue and Jardins (Sao Paulo) and Ipanema (Rio). Claro’s website currently offers a single 5G smartphone, the Motorola Edge 5G, available for pre-order between 2-13 July. As previously reported by CommsUpdate, Claro’s first-phase 5G network uses dynamic spectrum sharing (DSS) to utilise its existing LTE-A frequency bands.
