AzTelekom begins network upgrade

10 Jul 2020

Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies (Mincom) has announced that state-owned operator AzTelekom has begun upgrading the country’s main line network using DWDM/MPLS technologies. Phase one of the programme to install new equipment and additional fibre-optic backbone lines is already underway in four regions, with six further regions scheduled for phase two. Services are also being provided using 4G wireless technology in mountainous areas that cannot be connected by cable. According to Mincom, the network modernisation has enabled a significant increase in traffic transferred to the regions.
