Claro Brasil launches 5G

3 Jul 2020

Claro Brasil has switched on its 5G mobile network, which it says utilises a dynamic spectrum sharing (DSS) model. According to TeleTime, the new network re-uses the spectrum combination that is currently used to support the cellco’s LTE-A network, namely the 700MHz, 1800MHz and 2.5GHz bands. While coverage details have not been disclosed, Jose Felix, president of Claro Brasil, says that the company will offer ‘a gradual and transparent migration to 5G’.

As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, in February this year Claro teamed up with Ericsson and Qualcomm to stage a successful 5G New Radio (NR) data trial at its headquarters in Sao Paulo using its existing 4G frequencies.
