AT&T Communications has announced that it has switched on its 5G network in 28 new markets, increasing its footprint to 355 markets and covering 179 million people nationwide. Notable locations covered from this week include: Orlando, Miami, Maui County, Dallas, Austin and Salt Lake City.
In addition, AT&T has confirmed that 5G services have now gone live in Puerto Rico. The seven markets initially covered are Aguadilla, Aibonito Municipality, Arecibo, Mayaguez, Ponce, Rincon Municipality and San Juan. The low band 5G network utilises former 3G spectrum in the 850MHz band.
TeleGeography notes that AT&T’s original millimetre wave (mmWave) 5G footprint remains unchanged, covering parts of 35 cities. This network – branded ‘5G+’ – was launched in December 2018 using 39GHz frequencies.
