One Communications, the Bermudan holding company of US firm ATN International (ATNI), has announced that from 1 July 2020 it is ‘launching the Island’s fastest FibreWire Internet speeds … boasting [download connections of] up to 500Mbps’. Marking another ‘first’ for Bermuda, the telco will reportedly boost the ‘vast majority of FibreWire Standard Internet and all Smart Internet Plans’ at no extra cost to end users who stand to benefit from ‘a more than 50% increase’ in their internet speeds as a result.
Brian Lonergan, One Communications’ chief commercial officer, said that the speed increase will help customers currently observing the country’s ‘shelter-in-place’ strategy during the COVID-19 pandemic to continue to work from home. ‘On March 19th, One Communications had temporarily increased its FibreWire Internet speeds to a minimum of 50Mbps to support customers having to work from home and shelter-in-place during the COVID-19 pandemic,’ he said. The new permanent higher internet speeds will now come in from the start of next month, he confirmed.
