Verizon to acquire Iowa-based Chat Mobility

17 Jun 2020

Verizon Wireless has announced that it has sealed the takeover of one of the two Iowa-based cellcos that operates as Chat Mobility. Verizon has entered into an agreement to acquire the interests in the Iowa RSA 2 Limited Partnership, currently held by Interstate Enterprises, Grand River Communications and Cellular 35. When combined with the minority interest that Verizon currently holds in the business, the takeover will give Verizon 100% ownership of the partnership. The cellco provides wireless services in the ‘Iowa RSA 2’ market, consisting of Clarke, Decatur, Lucas, Ringgold, Union and Wayne counties, covering a population of approximately 51,000.

The acquisition is subject to Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approval and other conditions and is expected to close in 2H20. Verizon will continue to use the Chat Mobility brand for several months following the transaction closing as it works to integrate networks.

Note: the other Chat Mobility partnership operates in the ‘Iowa RSA 1’ market, consisting of Adams, Fremont, Mills, Montgomery, Page and Taylor counties; Verizon has clarified that it will not be acquiring this business.
