AT&T Communications has announced that it has switched on its 5G network in 137 new markets across more than 30 different states. The expansion means that AT&T’s 5G networks are now available in a total of 327 markets nationwide, covering roughly 160 million people. Notable locations covered from this week include: Anchorage, Atlanta, Baton Rouge, Memphis, Nashville and Tallahassee. The low band 5G network utilises former 3G spectrum in the 850MHz band.
TeleGeography notes that AT&T’s original millimetre wave (mmWave) 5G footprint remains unchanged, covering parts of 35 cities. This network – branded ‘5G+’ – was launched in December 2018 using 39GHz frequencies.
