Romania-based Digi Communications has renewed its partnership with Chinese technology supplier Huawei, reports local publication Hotnews.ro citing a joint statement issued by the two companies. The agreement is said to focus on the deployment of mobile telephony network infrastructure in Romania and Hungary. Digi launched its first commercial 5G radio stations in Bucharest in June 2019 using Ericsson’s 5G New Radio technology, after agreeing a 5G and NB-IoT agreement with the Swedish vendor in December 2017. The operator has also conducted network equipment tests with Huawei and now plans to begin deploying the Chinese vendor’s technology for commercial use from next week. Nokia equipment will subsequently be tested and installed.
George Zhang, General Manager of Huawei Technologies, said: ‘Despite a challenging business environment, Huawei is pleased to announce that its presence in the European telecommunications market is strengthening. By extending the collaboration for the development of the Digi Mobil network, Digi has shown that it has confidence in Huawei’s capabilities to provide complex technical solutions.’
