Telecom Egypt (TE) has announced the signing of what it called ‘two first of its kind agreements relating to transmission and mobile-to-fixed interconnection’ with Etisalat Misr. In a press release regarding the development, TE noted that the first agreement entails a development of its transmission and infrastructure services commercial model with Etisalat Misr, where the latter has for the first time inked a long-term agreement – including an annual commitment for TE’s infrastructure and transmission services. According to the fixed line incumbent, the contract is valued at EGP2 billion (USD126 million), will last for three and a half years, and will ‘enable Etisalat Misr to continue delivering premium offers and mobile telecommunications services to its customers’.

In addition, the companies have inked a mobile-to-fixed termination agreement, which TE noted represents the first commercial arrangement on mobile-to-fixed between itself and Etisalat Misr.

Commenting, TE’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Adel Hamed, said: ‘We are very happy to have signed these agreements. The transmission agreement is evidence that Telecom Egypt’s long-term commercial model is indeed valued by all mobile operators in the market.’ Etisalat Misr CEO Hazem Metwally added that his company was ‘pleased with the development of [its] strategic partnership with Telecom Egypt’, noting: ‘The development of events across the world makes telecommunications companies eager to cope with the required changes and during the next stage, agreements like the ones we have signed today will be reflected in the products and services that we will offer our customers for the first time in the Egyptian market.’
