Ceara-based Brisanet Telecomunicacoes – Brazil’s sixth largest fixed line broadband provider in terms of subscribers – has hired domestic vendor Padtec to upgrade its DWDM systems to meet increased bandwidth demands in its north-eastern service area. Roberto Nogueira, CEO of Brisanet, says that the upgrade will take effect later this year and allow the operator to expand the total transmission capacity of its optical mesh from Gigabits per second (Gbps) to Terabits per second (Tbps).
According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Brisanet claimed a broadband user base of 351,405 as of 31 December 2019, up from 242,420 one year earlier. The telco provides connectivity in more than 150 cities in Ceara, Rio Grande do Norte and Paraiba.
