Rakuten Mobile to bolster comms platform launch with Innoeye buy

14 May 2020

Japanese newcomer Rakuten Mobile, a unit of ecommerce firm Rakuten Inc., has revealed plans to acquire US-based technology solutions company Innoeye. With the mobile start-up having already deployed the vendor’s converged Operation Support System (OSS) to support the 4G/5G cloud platform for its network launch in Japan, plans are now in the pipeline to roll out the technology as part of the new Rakuten Communications Platform (RCP) to be made available to telecom companies and other enterprise customers across the globe. The RCP reportedly comprises ‘all the elements of the Rakuten Mobile network, including telco applications and software from multiple vendors, OSS and billing support systems and activation, in addition to ‘edge computing and virtual network management functions’.

‘With the planned acquisition of Innoeye, we are one step closer to closing the circle in bringing to market a carrier grade telco cloud product that is as simple as click, purchase and deploy,’ Rakuten confirmed in a statement.
