13 May 2020

Ukrainian fixed network operator Vega, a sister telco of Ukrtelecom, has announced the launch of gigabit GPON-based fibre broadband services in Kyiv, Odessa and Dnipro. Initially around 100 high-rise apartment buildings are covered by the new 1Gbps (download) service, multiplying existing available fibre internet connection speeds by around tenfold. General Director Murat Chinar declared: ‘GPON is our response to the challenge of digital transformation, which is gaining momentum in Ukraine. The internet has become an integral part of everyday life,’ adding that GPON technology also helped to future-proof Vega’s network, which has a presence in 22 Ukrainian regions.
