A1 Telekom Austria Group has reported total revenues of EUR1.13 billion (USD1.2 billion) for the first quarter of 2020, an increase of 3.4% from EUR1.09 billion in the year-ago period, driven by growth in Bulgaria, Belarus and Serbia and stable turnover in Austria. Group EBITDA rose by 1.7% from EUR374.1 million in Q1 2019 to EUR380.6 million twelve months later, driven by higher service revenues outweighing higher bad debt expense. A1 Telekom Austria Group reported a 3.9% increase in net profit from EUR85.9 million to EUR89.3 million over the same period, as foreign currency exchange losses in Croatia and Belarus were partly mitigated by lower tax expenses due to the release of accruals regarding a decided tax case in Bulgaria. The firm says it has suspended its outlook for full year 2020 ‘as it is still premature to give a precise estimation on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic’.
At 31 March 2020 A1 Telekom Austria Group reported a total of 21.31 million wireless subscribers, an increase of 1.8% year-on-year, mainly led by growth in Serbia (+3.4%) and Croatia (4.3%), while mobile customer numbers declined in Bulgaria (down 0.4%) and Austria (4.8%). Total wireline RGUs fell by 0.9% from 6.13 million at end-March 2020, as TV RGU growth mitigated the decline of fixed line voice and fewer low-bandwidth broadband RGUs in Austria.
