Poland’s government says it will start a new 5G auction process once the government eases restrictions surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak. Telecoms regulator the Office of Electronic Communications (Urzad Komunikacji Elektronicznej, UKE) suspended its sale of 5G-capable 3.6GHz spectrum earlier this month, but Reuters reports that the authority will look to launch a new sale process rather than attempt to resume the existing one, in an attempt to head off any legal challenges and in response to recent amendments to the country’s telecoms legislation.
A statement from the Ministry of Digitisation (Ministerstwo Cyfryzacji, MC) says that the original documentation for the process did not allow the regulator to change the deadline for firms to submit preliminary offers, leaving it open to legal action if it were to continue in its current form.
