Finnish mobile operator Elisa has revealed that its 5G network has now been switched on in a total of 23 locations across the country, with more than 850,000 Finns within its service area. It named the locations where 5G connectivity is now available as: Helsinki, Espoo, Tampere, Vantaa, Oulu, Turku, Jyvaskyla, Lahti, Kuopio, Pori, Kouvola, Joensuu, Vaasa, Seinajoki, Hyvinkaa, Rauma, Tuusula, Kerava, Kangasala, Raisio, Heinola, To Kuusamo and Siuntio.

As noted in TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, with Elisa’s 3.5GHz spectrum having become useable from 1 January 2019, it opened pre-sales of its 5G mobile devices and plans in May, before confirming officially that it had placed its first 5G-capable smartphone in the hands of a customer two months later, in July. At that latter date Elisa confirmed its 5G network was live in Turku, Tampere and Jyvaskyla.
