Oman’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has announced that over 500 villages and communities are set to benefit from a programme to expand telecoms and internet services to rural parts of the Sultanate. The initiative, which forms part of the National Broadband Strategy, will be funded by the Ministry of Finance at a cost of OMR15 million (USD39 million), reports Oman News Agency. Oman Broadband Company (OBC) will implement the new project, either through the rollout of fibre-optic networks or via satellite technology.
