Romanian govt dips into ANCOM reserves, defers spectrum fee payments

17 Apr 2020

Romania’s government has transferred approximately RON700 million (USD157.1 million) from the National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications’ (ANCOM’s) reserves to the state budget, in order to support efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, reports local publication Profit.ro. The move was made possible by an emergency ordinance, passed on 15 April, which approved the regulator’s annual budget. Following consultation with telecom operators and the media, the same ordinance also postponed until 31 October the deadline for spectrum fee payments.
