TRA allocates temporary spectrum to mobile operators

26 Mar 2020

Oman’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has allocated additional mobile spectrum to the Sultanate’s licensed network operators on a temporary basis and at no financial cost. The move is aimed at enabling mobile operators to continue to provide quality telecoms services to customers as usage surges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Last week the TRA unblocked access to VoIP apps including Skype, Google Meet and Zoom to facilitate business continuity and communication for organisations, private and educational institutions, and government bodies. The regulator has also directed service providers to avoid disconnecting customers if they fail to pay bills.
