Vectra may offload 133,000 subscribers as part of merger package

Polish telco Vectra may have to divest infrastructure which serves up to 133,000 broadband subscribers under the conditions of its recent merger with smaller rival Multimedia Polska. Telko.in reports that between 53,000 and 133,000 fixed broadband accounts and between 69,000 and 173,000 pay-TV customers could be affected by the sales, which are being enforced by competition authorities in order to ensure that the combined cableco does not have a market share greater than 40% in any one area.

Vectra acquired Multimedia in February this year, in a deal which has created Poland’s largest cable operator with 1.7 million subscribers and 4.4 million households passed by the enlarged network – overtaking Liberty Global’s UPC Polska in the process. No financial details were disclosed.
