Ooredoo deploys Ericsson Spectrum Sharing technology

5 Mar 2020

Ooredoo Qatar has deployed Ericsson’s Spectrum Sharing technology in Doha as part of its ongoing network modernisation, claiming a first in the Middle East, whilst being among the first three operators worldwide to adopt the system. Ooredoo noted that Ericsson Spectrum Sharing makes it possible to run 4G and 5G traffic simultaneously on the same frequency band and radio hardware. The operator added that the development of 5G will ‘accelerate the digitalisation of industries, generating new opportunities and enabling the launch and deployment of new, advanced technologies’. It went on to say: ‘User experience will also vastly improve, with significantly higher speeds and higher-capacity services. From an operations perspective, the collaboration with Ericsson enables smoother management of data traffic for Ooredoo, alongside simplification of network operations.’
