Polish cellco Play says 50% of its nationwide network is now ‘5G-ready’, while adding that it has switched on trial 5G services in Legionowo, a town in the Mazowsze region near Warsaw. Using Ericsson Spectrum Sharing technology, Play is utilising existing spectrum holdings in the 2100MHz band for its 5G rollout. The firm says a full commercial launch will not take place until after the government auctions 3.4GHz-3.8GHz licences later this year and sufficient 5G-enabled smartphones are available on the market. In the meantime the operator is continuing with trials in Legionowo and other markets, including the Tri-City area which covers Gdansk, Gdynia and Sopot, under plans unveiled last month.
