Verizon has teamed up with Samsung Electronics Americas, Motorola Mobility and Qualcomm Technologies for a 5G demonstration which achieved peak download speeds of 4.2Gbps via carrier aggregation (CA). The trial – which took place using a commercial network cell site in Texas – combined eight separate 100MHz channels of 28GHz millimetre wave (mmWave) spectrum to achieve the multi-gigabit speeds on an upcoming Motorola smartphone. Verizon expects eight channel CA using mmWave to become ‘widely available’ on its 5G network in 2020.
