MegaFon Tajikistan has announced that its first 5G mobile network section is live, initially covering one zone in central Dushanbe. The cellco’s statement on its website said that any customers with compatible devices can access 5G mobile broadband data speeds in the Ismoili Somoni area of the capital at no additional cost. It listed such devices as including: Huawei Mate Flex, Nokia 10, Samsung Galaxy S20, Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 and others. Anatoly Izyminkov, Executive Director of MegaFon Tajikistan, noted: ‘Of course, the first part of a 5G network is just the beginning. However, it is possible to now evaluate the activities of the most modern technology and envisage the possibility of its development. I am convinced that 5G-based services are great for business customers as well as government agencies that can implement large-scale projects in IT and the industrial Internet of Things – for example, effective online public transport control.’
MegaFon Tajikistan (registered as TT Mobile) is 75% owned by MegaFon of Russia, with the remainder held by local fixed line incumbent Tajiktelecom.
