SLT and HGC sign MoU to accelerate SDN alliance interoperability

17 Feb 2020

Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT), the country’s leading fixed line operator and ICT services provider by subscribers, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Hong Kong-based telco HGC Global Communications (HGC) to mark the start of their joint collaboration on accelerated network integration and expansion using software-defined networking (SDN) technology.

In a press release today (17 February) the pair announced they will work together ‘to enhance interoperability with the goal of accelerating their customers’ [digitisation] journey through inter-carrier network orchestration between the ASEAN and global communities, as well as network integration on HGC international marketplace by SDN’. Under the MoU, SLT and HGC hope to leverage each other’s network resources and capabilities ‘to expand their already-extensive network footprints while utilising digital technology to provide customers with highly flexible connectivity,’ the statement read. Further, the Hong Kong carrier also notes that the SDN alliance should improve interoperability between service providers ‘by riding on HGC’s carrier-to-carrier API hub, which is built on SDN architecture’.
