14 Feb 2020

At the beginning of March 2020, the Netherlands’ VodafoneZiggo will introduce ‘5G-ready’ mobile subscription packages for consumers and businesses, it announced on its website. For all new and existing Vodafone customers with a ‘Red’ or ‘Pro’ subscription, access to 5G will be free of additional charges, and an ‘unlimited’ data option will be available. Additionally, this week VodafoneZiggo offered its first 5G-ready devices, the Samsung S20 5G smartphone range. Marcel de Groot, consumer market director at VodafoneZiggo, said: ‘Our customers with a 5G-capable device can use 5G as soon as our GigaNet is ready later this year.’ The company’s release added that its core mobile network is 100% 5G-ready while it is partnering Ericsson in upgrading radio access infrastructure to 5G and expanding capacity, noting that in the course of 2020 it will participate in 700MHz, 1400MHz and 2100MHz frequency auctions whilst the 3.5GHz band is expected to be made available later.
