12 Feb 2020

Ukrainian CDMA mobile network operator Intertelecom has confirmed that it received the final green light from the National Commission for State Regulation of Communications & Informatization (NCCIR/NKRZI) on 7 February to receive a 4G LTE operating licence on 1 April 2020 and begin a national LTE network rollout using refarmed 800MHz spectrum. Intertelecom’s announcement on its website reassured existing customers that it will continue to provide CDMA services in tandem with LTE until 2025, while it is developing special introductory offers and loyalty programmes to reward users for migrating to LTE, including schemes for replacing CDMA devices with LTE models. Intertelecom noted that it is now tasked with a ‘difficult phase of network reconfiguration, replacement, installation of new equipment, base station frequency filters, and channel switching’, adding that specialist engineers are already working to optimise the process.
