Fixed and mobile operator Orange Polska says it installed over 200 new base stations during 2019 and upgraded more than 5,000 others. The firm now claims 11,200 4G base stations across the country, with 22% of these upgraded to offer the highest speeds via four carrier aggregation. 90% of Orange’s data traffic now goes over the 4G LTE network, up from just 8% in 2014.
Meanwhile, although the amount of data carried by its networks rose by 34%, the average speeds experienced by users actually improved or remained at the same level. Orange says that average download speeds on its mobile networks increased from 16Mbps at the end of 2017 to over 23Mbps at the end of 2019.
The firm says its priorities for 2020 will shift further towards 5G technology, having begun 3.7GHz trials in Warsaw in September and Lublin the month after, while it is also testing equipment in the 26GHz band in Zakopane.
