Openreach expands scope of fibre build programme in rural locations

27 Jan 2020

British network infrastructure provider Openreach has announced that it is widening the scope of its fibre-optic build programme to include 250,000 homes and businesses in more than 200 rural locations. Outlining the expansion in a press release, the company noted that the decision to do so had been made following ‘intensive trials’ of ‘a range of innovations’ in 13 rural communities last year. According to Openreach, it learnt much from the trials, and now feels that it can extend fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) infrastructure to the additional 250,000 homes and businesses that are in more than 200 market towns and villages previously considered too complex or expensive to upgrade.
