Oman Future Telecommunications (OFT), the Sultanate’s third mobile network operator (MNO) licensee, has signed an agreement to lease the mobile communication towers of Oman Tower Company to enable it to launch wireless services in the country. The OFT consortium secured Oman’s third MNO licence in October 2017 and went on to sign a strategic partnership agreement with Vodafone Group in September 2019. Under the 15-year non-equity agreement, Vodafone and OFT will work together to roll out a new network and develop a number of new services using the Vodafone brand in Oman. A commercial launch planned for the second half of 2020.
Founded in February 2018, Oman Tower Company is responsible for building, operating and leasing telecoms towers and associated infrastructure to be used by licensed operators on an open access basis.
