TIM Participacoes (TIM Brasil) has activated its first 5G study and testing centre in Sao Paulo. The telco will utilise the Cubo Itau complex, which it describes as ‘the largest entrepreneurship hub in Latin America’. TIM Brasil says that it is committed to creating a ‘5G-friendly ecosystem in Brazil’, and has opted to engage with technology companies, research institutions and entrepreneurs to develop applications, products and solutions. The telco already has three 5G laboratories in Florianopolis (SC), Campina Grande (PB) and Santa Rita do Sapucai (MG) and has also staged 5G demonstrations at retail stores in the state capital.
TIM Brasil’s 5G trial activity has been enabled by the award of a temporary 3.5GHz spectrum licence by the National Telecommunications Agency (Agencia Nacional de Telecomunicacoes, Anatel). The telco is working in association with vendor partner Ericsson.
