Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT, trading as bmobile) has teamed up with Chinese telecoms vendor Huawei to introduce a fixed-wireless ‘5G’ solution in Trinidad and Tobago. 5G access is said to be available in ‘major population centres’ and appears to represent an upgrade to the telco’s existing ‘WTTx’ Massive MIMO TD-LTE network. The technical specifications and the precise frequency band remain unclear, however.
Speaking at the launch, TSTT’s CEO Dr Ronald Walcott commented: ‘As the national provider, bmobile is committed to ensuring that everyone – and every business – in Trinidad and Tobago has access to high speed broadband. Our national broadband strategy is hinged on bringing this to fruition.’
