CICRA withdraws MTR decisions

17 Dec 2019

A planned glide path for mobile termination rates (MTRs) that was scheduled to be implemented from 1 January 2020 has been withdrawn, the Channel Islands Competition and Regulatory Authority (CICRA) has announced. Two separate information notices were published by the CICRA’s constituent regulators, the Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority (JCRA) and the Guernsey Competition and Regulatory Authority (GCRA), confirming that the decision to withdraw the glide path had been made after the bodies had ‘further considered the evidence’ and ’carried out further analysis’. Alongside confirming the withdrawal of the previous final decisions, the CICRA confirmed it plans to issue notices regarding a new proposed decision ‘in due course’.

Previously, in September 2019 the CICRA announced that MTRs in both Guernsey and Jersey were to be reduced from a current rate of GBP0.0411 (USD0.055) to GBP0.0311 from 1 January 2020, before falling to GBP0.011 and GBP0.007 from 1 January 2021 and 1 April 2022, respectively.
