T-Mobile has confirmed that its new 600MHz 5G network is live across Puerto Rico. Jorge Martel, general manager of T-Mobile Puerto Rico, commented: ‘It fills us with enormous pride that Puerto Ricans in areas of the 78 municipalities can have T-Mobile’s 5G technology within their reach.’ Coverage also includes the islands of Culebra and Vieques, T-Mobile notes.
Based on its 5G coverage map, the US-based cellco has also switched on 5G coverage in parts of the US Virgin Islands, including parts of Saint Thomas (including Charlotte Amalie) and Saint Croix (including Christiansted).
As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, T-Mobile activated its 5G network on 2 December, with its 5G handsets launching on 6 December. At launch, coverage spanned 5,000 towns and cities across the country. This figure is equivalent to roughly 60% population coverage.
